JOB SUMMARY

West Philadelphia Achievement Charter Elementary School is seeking a Physical Education teacher to join our professional community. This position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes, and develops an understanding of the relationship between healthy body function and exercise, motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, discovers and develop the talent of students in physical achievement, and strengthens students' skills, agility, poise, and coordination as individuals and as a part of a team. The physical education teacher will oversee activities and sports in concert with other staff members.

Essential Functions

1. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual, dual or team sports
2. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
3. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
4. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
5. Evaluates each student's growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from an accredited college or university
• Valid PA Teaching Certificate
• 2+ years of teaching Physical Education
• Must possess ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
• In the event that the need arises, you will need to be able to: lift, pull or push up to 15 lbs, walk a standard flight of stairs, or stand or sit for up to 45 minutes.
